The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) invites applications for a Marie Sklodowska-Curie PhD position focusing on the precise structural engineering of robust quantum dots through automated synthesis. This position is based at the Center for Convergent Technologies (CCT) in Genoa, Italy, and is part of the “Track the Twin” Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network.
The selected candidate will work within a dynamic, multicultural, and interdisciplinary research environment, collaborating with teams specializing in Automated Nanomaterials Engineering and Nanochemistry. The research will emphasize the development and scaling of quantum dots and bulk nanocrystals, leveraging automated platforms and digital twin technology to advance nanomaterials engineering.
Requirements:
– Excellent Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science or engineering, or a closely related discipline
– Experience with wet chemical synthesis of nanomaterials
– Proficiency in written and spoken English
– Strong motivation and creativity, with enthusiasm for interdisciplinary teamwork
– Commitment to advancing research in nanomaterials and nanotechnology
Key Responsibilities:
– Transferring synthesis protocols to automated workflows
– Scaling up synthesis of quantum dots and bulk nanocrystals
– Exploring non-toxic alternative precursors through rapid screening
– Integrating synthesis and characterization data using digital twin approaches to assess structure-property relationships and photostability
This is a full-time position with a 36-month contract, commencing 1 December 2025.
