Tilburg University invites applications for a PhD position in Methodology and Statistics, focusing on the development of next-generation structural equation modelling (SEM) tools. This project addresses the challenges posed by complex and large-scale data in empirical research, with an emphasis on methodological innovation and computational approaches for the social and behavioural sciences.
The successful candidate will participate in the SEM2.0 project, which aims to advance SEM frameworks suitable for high-dimensional data and personalized modelling. The position offers opportunities for collaboration with health and well-being researchers and involvement in developing scalable algorithms for data analysis.
Requirements:
– (Research) Master’s degree (completed or nearly completed) in applied/mathematical statistics, machine learning, sociometrics, econometrics, or a related field
– Candidates with a social science degree and strong quantitative skills are also encouraged to apply
– Demonstrated programming skills (e.g., R, Python, Matlab, or similar)
– Strong research and data analytical abilities, including computational statistics
– Effective communication and teamwork skills
– Project management and organizational skills
– Interest in open science and collaborative research
– Proficiency in English, including academic writing
– Willingness to contribute to small-scale teaching activities (e.g., working groups, bachelor thesis supervision)
