Ontario Tech University’s Institute for Cybersecurity and Resilient Systems (ICRS), within the Faculty of Business and IT, is inviting applications for fully and partially funded MSc and PhD positions in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work under the supervision of Dr. Li Yang and Dr. Khalil El-Khatib, both recognized among the top 2% of scientists globally.
Research Focus Areas include:
– Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, including Deep Learning, AutoML, TinyML, and Large Language Models (LLMs)
– Next-Generation Cybersecurity and 6G Networks
– Cybersecurity applications in IoT, IIoT, Electric Vehicles, Smart Cities, Nuclear Systems, and Aerospace
– Threat Intelligence, Intrusion Detection, and Anomaly Detection
– Sustainable, Edge, and Quantum-Inspired AI/ML
– Adversarial Machine Learning and Model Security
Requirements:
– Strong academic record (minimum 80% GPA)
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or Cybersecurity (PhD applicants require a thesis-based Master’s)
– Demonstrated project or publication record (PhD applicants must have a first-author peer-reviewed publication)
– English proficiency: IELTS ≥6.5 (minimum 6.0 in each sub-score) or TOEFL ≥83 (minimum 20 per section), or completion of a degree in English
Funding:
– Fully funded positions available for Canadian citizens and permanent residents
– Partially funded positions for international students (acceptance of partial funding must be confirmed)
Start Dates: January, May, or September 2026
