Uppsala University, Department of Information Technology, invites applications for a PhD position focusing on the development of Bayesian mathematical models and machine learning methods for applications in biomedicine and health. The position offers the opportunity to work in an international and collaborative research environment with supportive colleagues.
Requirements:
– Master’s degree (second-cycle) in engineering physics, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, machine learning, or a similar field; or
– Completion of at least 240 credits in higher education, with at least 60 credits at Master’s level including an independent project of at least 15 credits; or
– Substantially equivalent knowledge acquired through other means.
– Strong interest in Bayesian mathematical models and machine learning for biomedical and health research.
– Good communication skills and proficiency in oral and written English.
– Programming experience.
– Creativity, thoroughness, and a structured approach to problem-solving.
– Collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary work.
– Experience with calculus, linear algebra, and programming is required.
– Prior knowledge of biology or medicine is not required.
– Experience in any of the following is advantageous: mathematical biology, Bayesian statistics, Hamiltonian Monte Carlo, machine learning, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics.
