Utrecht University’s Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, invites applications for a PhD position focused on microbial genome evolution. The successful candidate will investigate evolutionary processes across the microbial tree of life, utilizing advanced bioinformatics techniques such as large-scale genomics, phylogenomics, gene annotation, and machine learning. This project aims to uncover how genome architecture influences physiology, ecology, and evolutionary patterns, providing opportunities for skill development in computational and academic research.
Requirements:
– A completed or nearly completed Master’s degree in biology, bioinformatics, or a related discipline
– Demonstrated interest in evolution, genome biology, microbiology, and/or bioinformatics
– Proficiency in English, both oral and written
– Strong teamwork and a positive, collaborative attitude
